Gas prices are high. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.

The United States economy suffers for many reasons, but mainly due to problems concerning the environment. Whereas in the past, environmentalists have been associated with liberalism, now no matter what your political affiliation is, you must deal with our lack of resources or else perish!
Al Gore says we can take lots of small steps: Use fluorescent lights, don’t leave them on, recycle, etc… That’s fine, but if only some people follow Gore’s advice instead of all, their green-friendly actions will have been in vain.

About a month ago, the Washington Post published an article regarding increased car sales in China. China’s economy has boomed and continues to boom! More people are buying cars there than ever before. So while we are trying to cut back on our gas here in the US, the Chinese are driving more. Result: Prices continue to climb. But don’t blame the Chinaman! He has never had a car. This is an exciting time for him.

Natural Gas is an efficient energy source for the production of electricity, but Stop the Flares realizes that humans aren’t using that energy effectively. We flare this natural gas, methane- a greenhouse gas that causes pollution, into the atmosphere especially in places like Nigeria. Stop the Flares has a mission: To turn Natural Gas into a liquid, to store it effectively, and thus be more environmentally and economically responsible.

The problem, as Stop the Flares sees it, is pollution. We understand the cause of that problem: Natural Gas Flares. Stop the Flares need not seek a solution. It already has one, and now works to implement a plan to make said solution a reality.

What can you do to help? Of course Stop the Flares accepts monetary donations, but it also seeks community volunteers. Please continue to read this blog, watch for updates, and learn about the situation. This is an issue that very few people know exists and we’d like to change that.

In the next entry, read about how the flaring of natural gas plagues people in Nigeria.

Thank you,

Jesse

Together we will Stop Methane Flaring
The first and only organization working solely on the elimination of natural gas flares and venting! Stop the flares is organized to stop flaring by elevating awareness, increasing research and implementing proven solutions to get results. Stop the Flares will eliminate all flares worldwide by the 2020.

Stop the Flares is a movement of ordinary citizens bonded together with common goals and values: help the environment, provide alternative energy solutions and not just talk — our purpose in forming this organization is to get results.

We are also welcoming all who wish to participate to include, time, donations, research papers and general support. We plan to eliminate the economic decision to flare natural gas by providing alternative economically completive solutions. Our goal is to seek solutions that change the value of methane so it would not be economically viable to flare. The benefits to changing the flare mindset would be:

  • Reduced Carbon Dioxide emissions and pollution released to the atmosphere
  • Less wasteful practices in the energy sector
  • Opportunities to provide low cost energy to people that live near flares and potentially need it the most
